Electric Floor Heating Under Hardwood Floors

Hardwood and electric radiant heating can work together — with the right system and careful installation. Heatwave’s low-profile design (1/8″ thick) and controlled, even heat output make it compatible with certain hardwood species and engineered wood flooring when installed per Heatwave’s published guidelines.

Key requirements for hardwood compatibility: the wood must be rated for use over radiant heat (most engineered hardwood is; solid hardwood depends on species), and the thermostat must be set to keep floor temperature below the wood manufacturer’s maximum. A floor sensor thermostat — included in Deluxe and Premium kits — is essential for monitoring floor temperature precisely.

Important: Always verify compatibility with your hardwood manufacturer before installing a heated floor system under their product. Contact us if you have questions about a specific floor.
